What does the badge do?
When a visitor clicks it, they see a page from the SRA confirming your firm is regulated, with a link to information about the protections that brings for clients. It helps separate a regulated firm from an unregulated adviser.
How do you get the SRA badge?
- Log in to mySRA.
- Go to My Organisations, select your organisation, then Office Details.
- Select Edit for the relevant office, check the website address, and save.
- Wait at least 24 hours. The SRA says the badge may not work before then.
- Go to the SRA's digital badge page and use Get your clickable logo.
- Choose a colour option (three are available) or the Welsh version.
- Copy the code and add it to your website.
Where should it go on the website?
The rules ask for a "prominent place" but do not set an exact position. Common good practice:
Position Why it works
Site footer, on every page
Visible wherever someone lands, including practice-area and price pages
Next to the SRA number
The rules ask for both
Near enquiry forms
Reassures people at the moment they decide to get in touch
Avoid putting it only on an "About" or "Regulatory information" page that most visitors never see.
Why is my SRA badge not working?
| Problem | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Badge shows an error or blank box | Website address in mySRA does not match the live site | Update mySRA to the exact address, wait 24 hours |
| Worked on old site, broken on new one | New domain, or www versus no www |
Add the new address in mySRA |
| Badge does not show at all | Code stripped by the website builder or a security plugin | Paste the code into a raw HTML block, or ask your developer |
| Badge works on some pages only | It was added to one page template, not the footer | Add it to the global footer |
For technical problems, the SRA directs firms to Yoshki's support pages.
How do you add the badge on common website platforms?
Platform Where to paste the code
WordPress
A Custom HTML block or widget in the footer, or the theme's footer settings
Wix
An Embed Code element in the footer, set to show on all pages
Squarespace
A Code Block in the footer
Static or custom-built site
The shared footer template, so it appears on every page
After adding it, open three or four different pages on a phone and a computer and click the badge each time. It should open the SRA's page about your firm.
What happens when you change domain or rebrand?
The badge is tied to the website address recorded in mySRA. If you move to a new domain, merge with another firm or rebrand:
- Update the website address in mySRA before the new site goes live, or on the same day.
- Allow at least 24 hours.
- Replace the badge code on the new site with a fresh copy from the SRA page.
- Check it works on the live domain, including with and without
www.
Forgetting this step is one of the most common reasons a new law firm website launches with a broken badge.
What else must appear alongside the badge?
Rule 4 also asks for:
- Your SRA number in a prominent place on the website.
- On letterhead and emails: your SRA authorisation number and the words "authorised and regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority".
And Rule 2 asks for your complaints procedure, including the Legal Ombudsman and SRA routes, to be on your website.
Frequently asked questions
Is the SRA digital badge mandatory?
Yes. It became mandatory on 25 November 2019. SRA-regulated firms must display it, with their SRA number, in a prominent place on their website.
Where do I get the SRA badge code?
From the SRA's digital badge page, using the 'Get your clickable logo' link. The badge is supplied by the SRA's partner Yoshki.
Why is my SRA badge not working?
The most common reason is that the website address in mySRA does not match the live site exactly. Update it in mySRA under My Organisations, Office Details, then allow at least 24 hours.
Can I just use an image of the SRA logo?
No. The requirement is for the clickable digital badge, which links to the SRA's information about your firm and the protections clients have.
Is there a Welsh version?
Yes. The badge is available in three colour options and in Welsh.
Do barristers need the SRA badge?
No. Barristers are regulated by the Bar Standards Board, which has its own requirements.
